Texture and pattern are those features that can be recognised in order to differentiate the species. Size and type of wood cells (longitudinal) are able to change the texture and patterns. Wood species with large and high density cells are said to have a coarse textures, but for smaller cells will have a fine texture. Moreover, hardwood are known to have coarse textures and have tine hollows called pores. These pores give hardwood a distinct look from softwoods, which have none.
